Canadian Women in Ocean
Industries Leadership
Only 16% of all Canadian businesses are
owned or led by women and yet studies by McKinsey show that by advancing
women’s economic empowerment in the economy Canada could add up to $150
billion in GDP by 2026. Research shows that gender and cultural
diversity along with a society founded on inclusion and belonging, are
proven multipliers to innovation, corporate performance, profitability
and economic growth. To enable and accelerate Canadian innovation,
research and technology development, market and export leadership in the
marine and ocean tech sector, it is critical to attract, develop and
retain a robust, diverse and inclusive talent pipeline that includes
women from every walk of life. The Canadian Women in Ocean Industries
Leadership initiative, and emerging long-term action plan and 2022
International Conference, will directly address this goal, increasing
Canada’s leadership, competitiveness and contribution to ocean
industries. It will foster an ocean talent pipeline with women from
every walk of life, including equity seeking groups: 2SLGBTQ+ community;
Indigenous communities; persons with disabilities; and racialized
people, increasing the competitiveness of this industry.
Challenger
Society for Marine Science

Science is a learned society for marine scientists in the UK.
Consortium for
Ocean Leadership
A consortium of the leading ocean science and
technology institutions from academia, aquaria, and industry. Based in
Washington, D.C., Consortium for Ocean Leadership (COL) advances ocean
research, innovation, education, and sound policy.
European Marine
Board
The European Marine Board (EMB) is the leading European
think tank in marine science policy. It provides a platform to advance
marine research and to bridge the gap between science and policy. The
European Marine Board is a unique strategic pan-European Forum for seas
and ocean research and technology. We provide a strategic forum to
develop marine research foresight, initiate state-of-the-art analyses
and translate these into clear policy recommendations to European
institutions as well as national governments. As an independent,
self-sustaining, non-governmental advisory body, the European Marine
Board transfers knowledge between the scientific community and decision
makers, promoting Europe’s leadership in marine research and technology.
Institute of Marine
Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST)
IMarEST is The
Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology; the
international professional body and learned society for all marine
professionals. IMarEST is the first Institute to bring together marine
engineers, scientists and technologists into one international
multi-disciplinary professional body.
International
Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information
Centers
The International Association of Aquatic and Marine
Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC) is an organization
of librarians and information professionals involved in all aspects of
aquatic and marine sciences and their allied disciplines. The
association provides a forum to exchange and explore ideas and issues of
mutual concern.
International
Society for Ecological Modelling
The International Society for
Ecological Modelling (ISEM) promotes the international exchange of
ideas, scientific results, and other knowledge on application of systems
analysis and simulation in ecology and natural resource management. The
Society was formed in Denmark in 1978 by the initiative of the professor
Sven E. Jorgensen. Today ISEM has following chapters: Africa,
Australasia, Europe, North America and Japan. The society sponsors
conferences, symposia, and workshops that promote the systems approach
to ecological research and teaching, and to the management of natural
resources. Its members frequently contribute research articles to the
official scientific journal of the Society, Ecological Modelling.
La Plateforme Océan
& Climat
Marine Geological and
Biological Habitat Mapping (GEOHAB)
GeoHab (Marine Geological
and Biological Habitat Mapping) is an international association of
marine scientists studying biophysical (i.e., geologic and
oceanographic) indicators of benthic habitats and ecosystems as proxies
for biological communities and species diversity. The main goals of
GeoHab scientists are: to support government spatial marine planning,
sustainable ocean management, and decision making; to support and
underpin the design of marine protected areas (MPAs); to conduct
scientific research programs aimed at generating knowledge of benthic
ecosystems and seafloor geology; to conduct living and non-living seabed
resource assessments for economic and management purposes, including the
design of fishing reserves.
