About the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology

The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) is an international professional body for the marine sector, bringing together engineers, scientists, technologists, and maritime professionals.

Through its publications and digital platforms, IMarEST shares knowledge across disciplines, covering topics from ocean science and sustainability to shipping, offshore energy, and maritime policy.

The challenge

IMarEST’s work spans a wide range of topics and audiences, from technical specialists to a broader maritime community. This creates an ongoing need for content that can reflect the breadth of the sector while remaining clear, engaging, and credible.

The challenge was to produce a consistent stream of articles that could cover complex and varied subject matter, while adapting tone and approach depending on whether the piece was more journalistic or aligned with member-led and organisational content.

What we delivered

Working as an ongoing contributor, we developed articles across IMarEST’s platforms, combining journalism and corporate-style writing.

This included:

  • Writing articles on topics such as ocean science, sustainability, ports, conservation, ocean observation, vessel design, climate change, renewable energy, and maritime regulation

  • Covering emerging areas including AI, monitoring technologies, and environmental change

  • Producing member-focused stories highlighting individual achievements, initiatives, and sector contributions

  • Pitching story ideas aligned with current developments and areas of interest across the marine sector

  • Conducting interviews and developing articles in collaboration with contributors, ensuring accuracy and approval prior to publication where required

Outcomes

The work contributed to:

  • A steady flow of content reflecting the breadth of the marine and maritime sector

  • Articles that balanced technical credibility with accessibility for a wider audience

  • Increased visibility of member activities, initiatives, and sector developments

  • Content adaptable to different formats, from more independent journalism to member-led storytelling
