GEO Blue Planet

About GEO Blue Planet

GEO Blue Planet is the ocean and coastal arm of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). It connects scientists, policymakers, industry, and civil society to ensure that ocean observation data is translated into information that supports decision-making.

GEO Blue Planet focuses on topics such as sargassum, marine litter, fisheries, and coastal sustainability, and plays a key role in strengthening Europe’s contribution to the global ocean observing community.

The challenge

GEO Blue Planet needed consistent digital communication across multiple websites, working groups, and audiences, ranging from ocean scientists to national, regional, and local policy and decision-makers.

Crucial to this was the need to translate complex marine research activity and technological solutions into clear, accessible content that maintained accuracy while reaching diverse audiences.

What we delivered

Working as an integrated communication partner within a larger team, we provided ongoing communication support including:

  • Monthly articles for general and specialist audiences

  • Event announcements and reports across GEO Blue Planet activities

  • Social media packages for LinkedIn and X

  • Script for a two-minute introduction to GEO Blue Planet video

  • Improved web copy for activity and thematic pages

  • Bi-annual KPI reporting with actionable recommendations for engagement and reach

  • Strategic advice on content and communication opportunities aligned with GEO Blue Planet’s priorities

Outcomes

Our work contributed to:

  • clearer storytelling around GEO Blue Planet’s activities

  • increased visibility of working-group outputs

  • greater consistency across multiple communication channels

  • reduced communication burden for scientific and coordination teams

  • a more coherent digital presence across the GEO Blue Planet ecosystem
