Canadian Science Publishing

About Canadian Science Publishing

Canadian Science Publishing is an independent publisher of scientific journals, covering a wide range of disciplines across the natural sciences and engineering.

Alongside its journals, the organisation produces editorial content designed to engage a broader scientific community, from early-career researchers to more established audiences, and to explore how research connects to wider questions and applications.

The challenge

Canadian Science Publishing needed a consistent stream of written content for its website that could appeal to a science-curious audience while remaining credible to researchers. This meant balancing accessibility with accuracy across a wide range of topics, not limited to a single field.

The content also needed to go beyond summarising research. It needed to provide insight, context, and practical value, whether through exploring published studies, unpacking elements of the research process, or examining broader themes such as open data and sustainability.

What we delivered

Working as a content contributor, we developed articles and series published on the Canadian Science Publishing website, including:

  • Articles exploring research published in CSP journals, based on interviews with the researchers involved

  • A series examining the elements of a research paper, offering practical insights into components such as tables, maps, and discussion sections

  • Content linking chemistry research to sustainability goals and broader societal challenges

  • A series on open data, exploring its role, challenges, and opportunities in scientific research

  • A short series on unanswered questions in chemistry, developed through researcher interviews

This also included:

  • Conducting and synthesising interviews with researchers across disciplines

  • Shaping article formats and contributing to the development of series concepts

  • Writing for a range of career stages, from early-career researchers to more established scientists

Outcomes

The work contributed to:

  • A diverse body of content engaging readers across disciplines and career stages

  • Clear, accessible articles that maintained credibility with a scientific audience

  • Content that provided both insight into research and practical guidance for researchers

  • Development of structured series that could be built on over time

  • Reduced internal burden on the Canadian Science Publishing team to generate and shape editorial content
