The Society was formed in Denmark in 1978 by the initiative of the professor Sven E. Jorgensen. Today ISEM has following chapters: Africa, Australasia, Europe, North America and Japan. The society sponsors conferences, symposia, and workshops that promote the systems approach to ecological research and teaching, and to the management of natural resources. Its members frequently contribute research articles to the official scientific journal of the Society, Ecological Modelling.

Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping (GEOHAB)
GeoHab (Marine Geological and Biological Habitat Mapping) is an international association of marine scientists studying biophysical (i.e., geologic and oceanographic) indicators of benthic habitats and ecosystems as proxies for biological communities and species diversity. The main goals of GeoHab scientists are: to support government spatial marine planning, sustainable ocean management, and decision making; to support and underpin the design of marine protected areas (MPAs); to conduct scientific research programs aimed at generating knowledge of benthic ecosystems and seafloor geology; to conduct living and non-living seabed resource assessments for economic and management purposes, including the design of fishing reserves.

Marine Guides Association of Canada
The MGAC is a non-profit association of marine guides and tourism stakeholders committed to the development and preservation of top-tier professional guiding in Canadian coastal waters.

National Association of Marine Laboratories
The mission of NAML and its three regional organizations is to promote excellence in research, education, and public outreach in the marine sciences. NAML also seeks to provide a forum for the resolution of challenges common to non-profit marine laboratories in the United States and to inform the wise use and conservation of marine and coastal resources. The Association is committed to establishing an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of NAML’s research, education, and outreach enterprise.

New Zealand Marine Sciences Society/Te Hunga Mātai Moana O Aotearoa

Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO)
The Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans is an academic consortium that conducts research to advance understanding of the coastal ocean within the California Current Large Marine Ecosystem and inform management and policy.

Society for Women in Marine Science
The Society for Women in Marine Science brings together marine scientists of all career levels to discuss the diverse experiences of women in marine science, celebrate the research done by women in the field, and promote the visibility of women in the marine science community.

Society of Environmental Toxicology & Chemistry
SETAC is a not-for-profit, worldwide professional organization composed of about 5,000 individuals and institution in more than 90 countries dedicated to the study, analysis and solution of environmental problems, the management and regulation of natural resources, research and development and environmental education.

Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association
The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) was established as a regional, non-profit, membership organization in 1993 and registered in Zanzibar, Tanzania in 1994 as a non-governmental organization. The organization is dedicated to promoting the educational, scientific and technological development of all aspects of marine sciences throughout the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region (consisting of 10 countries: Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Comoros, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius, Réunion (France)), with a view toward sustaining the use and conservation of its marine resources. WIOMSA has a particular interest in linking the knowledge that emerges from research to the management and governance issues that affect marine and coastal ecosystems in the region.

Women’s Aquatic Network
The Women’s Aquatic Network (WAN) brings together professionals with interests in marine, coastal and aquatic affairs and promotes the roles of women in these fields. Membership is open to all gender identities in the D.C. metro area.
